Cafè Saba Identity

This was a school project I did my first year of studying (I am now in my second year). The project was making a new logo and postalia for a cafè here in Oslo. The cafè is run by a charity organisation called Kirkens Bymisjon. They spend a lot of their time to make sure that everyone´s having a good time and feeling at home at the cafè.

With that, and the story behind the name of the cafè in mind (Saba is a name known from african history), I came up with the idea of drums. When you see african drums from above, you can see some points. Around one of the drums I came across, there where eight points. The drums was my starting point for the rest of the logo and postalia. The type I wrote myself with the idea of making the font as personal as possible.

The shape symbolises the african background of the cafè without beeing overpowering, and the font symolises the big hearted, personal and friendly people who work there and are involved in the cafè.
